I had a great weekend… 450 minutes of World Cup football and a BBQ in the sun. Not only that, my invite arrived for the Queen’s Garden Party. I can’t pretend that I’ve done anything to deserve it (my Mum is taking me as a guest) and I’m sure I’ll need binoculars to see anything but I’m excited never the less.

The Brafferton Groups business cards arrived back from print today and what a joy. It’s amazing how a bit of ’spot uv’ can complement good design. Now onto phase two; design and implementation of the business’s new web site.

Beach Huts

We came accross a little gem at the weekend, Blyth in Northumberland. Miles of golden sand, glorious dunes, open air theatre space and beach huts! Which got us thinking, a possible new office for the Jam Jar team (painted purple of course!)

The new huts were created by Newcastle-based Ian Darby Partnership to benefit the local community and attract more tourists to the Northumberland coastline. The 15-plus beach huts come complete with green roofs that feature their own wind turbines; the designers claim they are capable of generating enough energy to run the huts lights and electricity supply. And to add to their greeness, the building materials include reclaimed concrete slabs from the promenade and wood from sustainable sources.

Alan Balmer Associates’ new brand identity showcases this week. The businesses final logo signifies a positive ‘direction’ for clients and the services they offer, with the ultimate goal of ‘bridging a gap.’ Thanks to Alan for his great feedback throughout the design process.

Goodie in a Hoodie

The young people from the Regional Youth Work Unit launched their Truth About Youth initiative in style today at their first ‘Goodie in a Hoodie’ event. Dressed in their new hoodies their aim is to engage with the local community and change perceptions about young people in the North East by challenging stereotypes.

We are really pleased that the young people have made the brand ‘their own’. The branding workshops yielded so many varied ideas that there was an on-line vote to determine the final logo (a selection can be seen below, the winning logo is shown to the left). The feedback from the promotional materials (especially the stickers) is great credit to the creativity of the Truth About Youth team.

Giving Young People a Voice

Thank you to the young people involved with the North East Regional Voice & Leadership Network for such positive feedback on our logo designs. The new RVLN logo will be used to represent the initiative in the North East and outside the region. We developed the different logo options from initial ideas generated by the young people to ensure they had ownership of the entire process.

Calling All Apprentices

After a successful brand development exercise for EDBS Apprenticeships, we have just launched their colourful new apprenticeships web site. Due to popular request we have extended our range of ‘apprentice characters’ and injected some humor with subtle animation and speech bubble call-outs.

Over the coming week you will be able to follow the EDBS apprentice, ‘Sibbers’ as he spends each day of ‘Apprenticeship Week 2010′ with a different local business. We will also be uploading video and audio content of Sibbers to the EDBS Apprenticeships Blog.
